Highlights

Changing the binder can improve the electrochemical performance of SiOx/ graphite.

CMC is helpful to improve the cyclic stability of the SiOx /graphite electrode.

GG can increase the first discharge specific capacity of the SiOx /graphite electrode.

CMC/GG hybrid in proper proportion can give full play to their advantages.

According to the research article presented by T. Zhao, Y. Meng, H. Yin, K. Guo, R. Ji, G. Zhang, Y. Zhang, Beneficial effect of green water-soluble binders on SiOx/graphite anode for lithium-ion batteries, Chemical Physics Letters (2020),  doi: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.cplett.2020.137145. , various binders are employed to prepare electrode in order to improve the electrochemical performances of SiOx/graphite anode materials. The results show that CMC is
helpful to improve the cyclic stability of the SiOx/graphite electrode, when CMC is used as the binder, the electrode has the lowest impedance, the highest initial Coulombic efficiency (77.92%) and the best rate capability. GG(guar gum) is helpful to increase the first discharge specific capacity of the SiOx/graphite electrode. Comparing three proportions of  CMC/GG hybrid binder, when the mass ratio of CMC/GG is 9:1, the electrode has the best electrochemical performances. Therefore, different binders have different effects on the performance of electrodes in secondary batteries. Hybrid binders may be one of the effective measures to improve the electrochemical performances of electrodes used in rechargeable batteries in the future.
